Chancellors of Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS) and University of Tehran (UT) attended National TV station, channel 2, to participate in an interview focusing on the new academic year, on the world rank of both universities and their scientific output on September 28, 2009.
Dr. Bagher Larijani, TUMS chancellor, in response to the question raised by the TV anchor inquiring about the two universities world rank that is discrepant to their scientific output.
Dr. Bagher Larijani, TUMS chancellor, in response to the question raised by the TV anchor inquiring about the existing discrepancy between the two universities world rank and their scientific output , said we have to try harder and put more quality to work. He added that 40-50 thousand scientific articles had been published in the past 10 years and the position held in reputed indexing databases has changed from 49 to 25 among 146 countries in the world and, in fact, there has been a rapid growth in ranking of this type, as far as the point that Iran has regionally left behind Saudi Arabia and Egypt, except Turkey, in this regard.
Being fair enough, the chancellor exemplified TUMS and said that “although our scientific output has tripled in the past five years but we have to add more quality to our activities”.
