Chancellor Discussing TUMS Anniversary and its Achievements on Channel 4 TV

TUMSPR News: Dr. Bagher Larijani, TUMS chancellor, participated in a news talk on Channel 4 TV to discuss TUMS history and its achievements on March 7, 2010.
The chancellor for Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS), Dr. Bagher Larijani, participated in a news talk on Channel 4 TV to discuss the history of the institution, its undertakings and plans on March 7, 2010.
On being recognized as “the model of higher education in Iran”, the chancellor said the university had trained more than 70,000 students in the past 75 years referring to the period of time the University has been in its present location since 1934. He also said the University was more than 150 years old if you regard its earlier history from the time of Dar ul-Funun establishment.
He believed the university was in fact a pioneer in research and education in the state as it had topped rival institutions in the past seven years in research and the past three years in education.
On its international stand, he said the progress has been satisfactory and the university had ranked 368 among world universities by THE-QS and below 500 by Shanghai ranking systems.
The chancellor finds looking for weak pints as equally important as the strong ones and believes there is more capacity regarding the recent advances in pharmaceutical and medical equipment productions. He also values the appreciation of the look toward technological development in contrast to scientific endeavors.
Later on, the chancellor indicated that the state’s scientific plan in health sector was in its final steps and that of the University had encompassed research, educational and even cultural issues too.
On any good news for 2010, he hoped by the bulk of research going on in the university and more than 3000 bone marrow transplantations, advances in cell therapy would be materialized.
