Mali Health Minister, Accompanying Delegation Visit TUMS Heart Center

TUMSPR News: The Health Minister of the Republic of Mali and the accompanying delegation visited the Heart Center affiliate to Tehran University of Medical Sciences on August 18, 2010.
The Health Minister of the Republic of Mali, Dr. Oumar Ibrahima TourĂ©, and the accompanying delegation including the country’s ambassador to Iran, Mr. Diall, Dr. Kleum Trari, Mr. Ousman Kone, the ambassador’s technical advisor, Dr. Aliou Sylla, the ministry’s coordinator for combating AIDS and Dr. Mavi Nadelime, the coordinator for malaria control of Mali Ministry of Health, visited the Heart Center affiliated to Tehran University of Medical Sciences on August 18, 2010.
At the beginning, Dr. Hadj-ghasemi, the director of the Hospital, expressed his delight for hosting the visiting group and the Mali Health Minister thanked him for the created opportunity and expressed his long wish to have seen the facility in person.
Introducing the Hospital briefly, Dr. Hadj-ghasemi went over some statistics denoting the load of work done at the facility, e.g. a yearly 3500-4000 open heart surgeries and more than 10000 angiographies in this 450-bed hospital, and the reason people were choosing the Hospital for treatment_ quality of care and lower expenses.
Introducing the delegation, Dr. Oumar Ibrahima TourĂ© called the objectives of the visit, establishment of a similar facility in the Republic of Mali and said, “We were aware of your experience and technical capabilities and that’s why we wished to create ties with you for exchange of expertise and collaboration between the two parties”. He then said, “We try to make the best of these visits for the promotion of a similar heart center in Mali and we try to establish a center that could handle all cardiac disease, aside from the existing cardiac wards in the hospitals”, in response to a question on the status of cardiac facilities in the general hospitals there.
Then, there were inquiries about other similar facilities in Tehran and across Iran and the quality of care they were offering by the Minister and the ambassador. The response was positive as there is one more similar facility in Tehran aside from cardiac wards in every hospital.
Later on, the delegation visited the post-CCU, cath-lab and CCU wards and visited the imaging facilities of the center before looking at the amphitheater and the miniature model of the Hospital. Finally, the group watched a movie of an open-heart surgery that was described as magnificent by the Minister and the ambassador.
