TUMSPR News: Dr. Niknam, the director of International Relations at the Ministry of Health calls the Regional High-level Consultation Meeting a preparation for the September 2011 UN General Assembly Meeting on non-communicable diseases on October 25,2010.
Welcoming the health delegates from Eastern Mediterranean Region and vice-chancellors for health of different medical sciences universities in Iran, Dr. Niknam, the director of the International Relations Office at the Ministry of Health, expressed his pleasure for hosting the first meeting with such magnitude and importance and reminded the meeting which is going to be held in less than a year at the UN High-level Meetings of the General Assembly in September 2011 with the participation of heads of states and governments on the prevention and control of non-communicable diseases.
In his speech, Dr. Niknam called for preparation for that event by raising awareness on health issues targeted at the authorities and people. He called such exercises a year-long awareness campaign on the prevention and control of non-communicable diseases. He later said since other regions would hold such meetings, the present experience and findings could help others for making similar experiences.
