TUMSPR News: The 75th anniversary of TUMS establishment was held at the School of Medicine on February 27 to March 3, 2010.

The 75th anniversary of Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS) establishment was held at the School of Medicine on February 27 to March 3, 2010.

Nearly all research centers, educational centers, schools, administrative bodies such as vice-chancellors for education and research, etc did their best at the erected exhibition to illustrate their share in the making of the state’s oldest university in modern era.

On March 3rd 2010, the students, the alumni and the faculties and staff gathered at Avicenna Conference Hall to celebrate the occasion.

Dr. Mohagheghi from the Ministry of Health and Medical Education read the message by Dr. Ahmadinezhad, who had expressed his sincere gratitude to “science, and higher educational bodies” in general, and the “faculties and astute students of the University”, in particular.

Dr. Moslem Bahadori, the head of TUMS Alumni Office, while congratulating the 75th anniversary, said the university had benefited the national and international communities alike by its 100,000 graduates who some of them hold important positions around the world.

Mr. Isazadeh, the representative of the leader’s office in the University, took the coincidence of the anniversary and the birthdates of Prophet Muhammad and Imam Sadiq with good omen and a feeling of sanctity.

Dr. Dolati, a provost dermatologist, who took the podium on behalf of all TUMS alumni groups, said those that graduate from a university are obliged to recompensate by providing their services and financial help to the university. He finally concluded his speech by reading the message sent by Dr. David Skorton, the president of Cornell University, to TUMS chancellor, Dr. Bagher Larijani, on the occasion.

Mr. Mohsen Hashemi, from the Rehabilitation Faculty gave a brief history of the faculty which had started from a small room in the basement of the one-thousand-bed hospital.

However, Dr. Shams Shariat Torbaghan’s, a provost pathologist and author of a few books on the history of modern medicine in Iran, took the stage and argued that the establishment of the School of Medicine dated back to 157 years ago in Dar-al-Funun and moving its place for a few times did not justify forgetting its past. The atmosphere was electric for some moments when he congratulated the 157th anniversary of the school and the audience applauded the professor for a couple of minutes.
