The 75th Anniversary of TUMS Establishment is Held in a Vibrant Atmosphere (2)

TUMSPR News: The 75th anniversary of TUMS establishment was held at the School of Medicine on February 27 to March 3, 2010
Dr. Shafiei, the head of TUMS Pharmaceutical Research Center, hinted at the side-by-side development of medical and pharmaceutical sciences and hoped the university could sustain its development to be amongst the best international universities in its 100th anniversary. Criticizing the total replacement of medicinal herbs by chemical substances, he welcomed the recent move in reviving the science by the university and international bodies worldwide in the last twenty years.
Dr. Malekafzali, a consultant of the chancellor and former head of TUMS Institute of Public Health Research, said that the institute had a community-based outlook and it addressed health issues effectively and with its many research stations countrywide it had helped reduce the burden of disease. He also added that the Primary Health Care model of the faculty during 1972 – 1974 was the state’s pride which had been recognized internationally and regarded as a successful model in the Mississippi State and adopted by [some of] the EMRO region countries.
Dr. Mosafa, a provost dentistry professor and a present alumni office authority praised all the organizers of the event and the chancellor for making the impossible possible in no time.
In his speech, Dr. Bagher Larijani praised the former chancellors and managers of the University who had helped the university evolve to its present status during the past 75 years. He then emphasized the university deserved being a model of higher education in Iran as it pioneered and offered new models in medical education.
The former faculty member and the present health minister, Dr. Vahid-dastjerdi was the last one to give her speech. She said, “We are here to commemorate and pay respect the work of the professors of the University who helped us to be the best medical faculty in the country and the 365th in the world”. She also emphasized that by scientific empowerment Iranian civilization would prosper.
The attendees finally, visited the exhibition and erected a monument on the plate buried at the doorsteps of the faculty in 1934 (as shown in the picture).
