The First Palliative Care Center is Inaugurated at TUMS

TUMSPR News: TUMS Chancellor and authorities from the Ministry of Health inaugurate the first palliative care center in Iran on July 26, 2010.
Bagher Larijani accompanied by Dr. Gouya, the head of Center for Disease Control and Dr. Ramezani, the head of cancerous disease of the Ministry of Health and the head of TUMS Cancer Institute inaugurate the first palliative care center in Iran on July 26, 2010.
Dr. Larijani called the establishment of the center as crucial while cancers are the third cause of morbidities and mortalities and five percent of the population is suffering from one kind of the disease. He also pointed out that the number of cases were on the rise as we have a longer life expectancy now.
Referring to the high cost of medications used to treat cancers, the chancellor called for the coverage of the costs by insurance companies which are mostly run by the state. He also called NGOs as an invaluable source for help in this regard.
