The First Professor Alireza Yalda Foundation’s International Conference Attracts Distinguished Scholars from Iran and Foreign Countries

TUMSPR News: The first Professor Alireza Yalda Foundation’s International Conference is held at TUMS National Museum attracting a large number of distinguished scholars from Iran and other European countries on October 22, 2010.


On October 22, 2010, the First Professor Alireza Yalda Foundation’s International Conference was held at Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS) National Museum of Medicine attracting a large number of distinguished scholars from Iran and some European countries. The conference, being the first of its kind has been named after Professor Alireza Yalda, a TUMS faculty member who has been studying and working at the University for nearly 50 years, tries to persuade young researchers follow the path Yalda has created in research, education and serving people.


In his opening remarks, Professor Alireza Ranjbar, the president of the Foundation, explained the objectives of the foundation, commemorating Professor Yalda for his life-long scientific achievements and ethical practice alongside encouraging young researchers.


Dr. Bahadori, the head of TUMS Alumni Office, took the podium to talk about the right choice the Foundation had made in asking him to give the opening lecture where he admired the way the elite are commemorated nowadays in their life time in Iran and not only after their death. He characterized Professor Yalda as a dedicated, committed and a Muslim teacher who never established a private practice to be fully in the service of patients at hospitals and students at classes.


Dr. Seyed Mansoor Gatmiri, the manager of TUMS Public Relations and the secretariat of the Alumni Office was the third to take the stage to draw a sketch of the institute’s history and its 70,000 graduates who are dispersed all over the world. He later hinted at the launch of a website to better get in touch with the alumni and said the University would warmly and openly welcome slightest move to cooperate in research and education by those inside and outside Iran.


Dr. Bagher Larijani, TUMS Chancellor, who two years ago named the chair of infectious diseases after Professor Yalda and was addressed in Professor Ranjbar’s speech as a person who deservedly endears the past and present scholars of the University, congratulated the Foundation for their initiative. Dr. Larijani compared Professor Yalda to a shining star that has lit the way in medicine with his 50 years of dedication and tireless efforts. He later emphasized that the institute’s achievements have been made possible by its hardworking faculties putting it ahead of other higher education institutes in the region.

Later, scientific lectures were given in four different categories in clinical medicine and basic sciences culminating to the selection of four researchers in the “Junior Scientist” category and one in “Innovation in Clinical Medicine” as follows:

In the “Junior Scientist” category:

Dr. Sasan Adib, from the Department of Stereotactic Neurosurgery at the University of Freiburg, Germany,
Dr. Pegah Aghajanzadeh, from Department of Internal Medicine, Tehran University of medical Sciences, Iran,
Dr. Syrus Faraji, from Department of Infectious Diseases, Tehran University of medical Sciences, Iran,
and Dr. Nima Rezaie from Department of Pediatric Immunology, Tehran University of medical Sciences, Iran,

and in Innovation:

Dr. Abbas Ferdosi, Department of Cardiac Surgery, University of WittenHerdecke, Bad Rothenfelde, Germany

The closing remarks were made by Dr. Shams Shariat Torbaghan, Dr. Alireza Yalda, the honorary president of the foundation, Dr. Bagher Larijani, Dr. Alireza Ranjbar and some of the guests before giving the awards and serving the supper .
