Reaching Complete Coverage by TUMS Health Posts in Tehran

TUMSPR News: TUMS chancellor Dr. Bagher Larijani announced the one-hundred percent coverage of health services by the University’s health posts in Tehran on April 13, 2010 at a gathering participated by the health minister, Dr. Vahid-dastjerdi and the authorities of three district health centers of the institution.

The chancellor also added that the University tends to expand its health services as the picture of diseases has changed from communicable to non-communicable in recent years.
Pointing to the importance of health network development in big cities, Dr. Larijani called it an essential undertaking with numerous difficulties that necessitates an in-depth approach. He then called the government’s support of the health sector as crucial and have a stronger commitment in support of people by prioritizing health.
Later on, the chancellor said that being a progressive and developing country necessitates having healthy and happy individuals and provision of comprehensive health services it detrimental in the promotion of health in the society.
Describing the steps toward the completion of services, the chancellor said that the program had been devised to reach the 100% coverage since 2005 but reaching that goal entailed establishment of up to 140 health posts in that year that ended in only a 30% achievement of the goals as the University managed to rent and own 52 center but the new approach to health network development helped much regarding efficacy, accountability and equity in health which can be adopted as a model in the country for big cities.
The University has not only been trying to construct new health centers and health posts in recent years but it has been purchasing health services to bridge the gap.
