Turkish Health Minister, Accompanying Delegation at TUMS Tehran Heart Center

TUMSPR News: Dr. Recep Akdag, the Health Minister of the Republic of Turkey, and accompanying delegation visited Tehran Heart Center affiliated to Tehran University of Medical Sciences on June 24, 2010.
The Health Minister of the Republic of Turkey, Dr. Recep Akdag, and accompanying delegation from the ministry visited Tehran Heart Center (THC) affiliated to Tehran University of Medical Sciences on June 24, 2010. The Turkish delegation’s three-day stay in Iran, June 24 – 26, had started with meeting the Iranian Ministry of Health Officials. Dr. Niknam, the director of International Relations Office of the Iranian Ministry of Health had arranged the visit and accompanied the minister in the visit to the hospital.
Dr. Ghazi-khansari, the manager of TUMS International Relations Office, and Dr. Hadj-ghasemi, the manager of the hospital and a number of officials from the center welcomed the guests and Dr. Hadj-ghasemiand introduced the hospital and its scientific and clinical activities which included more than 4000 open heart surgeries, more than 10,000 angiographies and 3000 angioplasties a year. Immediately, Dr. Akdag inquired about the number of faculty members at the center and Hadj-ghasemi put the numbers at 10 cardiothoracic surgeons, 25 cardiologists and 80 residents plus 20 other cardiologist who worked there on contract. The minister praised the great job done by that small number of faculties.
Further talks oriented on the similarities and differences in the tariffs for the services rendered in the public and private sectors.
On visiting the CCU and post CCU ward, the Minister, Dr. Akdag admired the way the services were being given to the patients through centrally-located nursing stations which matched advanced peer facilities in the world.
Participating in a short interview, Dr. Racep Akdag on the question on his general impression regarding the visit said “In one word, it was excellent although I did not visit all parts of the hospital except the CCUs and ICUs”. And on his comparison with European counterparts, the Minister said “You may not find such a center in most European countries. I mean, you may find or not but the services are being rendered in the highest possible quality, and I congratulate you on this great job”.
