The letter which was read by Dr. Dolatian at Avicenna Conference Hall at TUMS before the audience who had come to celebrate the occasion, reads as follows:

March 1, 2010

Professor Bagher Larijani
Chancellor
Tehran University of Medical Sciences

Dear Chancellor Larijani:

It is a pleasure to congratulate Tehran University of Medical Sciences on the occasion of its 75th anniversary.

From Its origin in the School of Medicine of the University of Tehran in the 1930s, TUMS has grown tremendously. Now the largest medical school in Iran, it also hosts the country’s largest schools of dentistry, pharmacy, public health, nursing and midwifery, along with other specialties. Over the 75 years of its history, TUMS has become widely celebrated for its leadership in medical education, for the high quality of its teaching hospitals, and for its many advanced research centers. When I was fortunate enough to visit the university in 2008, I was deeply impressed with its dedicated faculty and students, its extensive and sophisticated facilities, and your own superb leadership.

I hope that someday we may find ways for Cornell University and TUMS to work together. In the meantime, I send my good wishes for even greater success for Tehran University of Medical Sciences and the coming years.

Best regards,
David J. Skorton,
President
