TUMSPR News: The latest webometric ranking of more than 18000 higher education institutes was released in early February by Cybermetrics Lab. In this ranking, Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS) topped all medical universities in Iran.
The latest webometric ranking of more than 18000 higher education institutes was released in early February by Cybermetrics Lab, a research group belonging to the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones CientÃficas (CSIC), the largest public research body in Spain. In this ranking, Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS) Ranked second nationally and 1266 internationally. TUMS topped all other state-run and open medical universities in the country by a foreign evaluator. Recently the Iranian Ministry of Health and Medical Education had put TUMS ahead of all the state’s medical universities but by different criteria compared to that of the Webometreics.
University of Tehran repeated its lead in Iran by ranking first and Isfahan University of medical Sciences, which had ranked second in the last three times ranked 9th in Iran and nearly doubled its international rank by 2207.
Visibility counts for 50%, web size for 20%, rich files for 15% and scholarly papers and citations for each academic domain for 15% of the ranking criteria.
As the group puts it, the objectives of the ranking is summarizing the global performance of the University, providing information for candidate students and scholars, and reflecting the commitment to the dissemination of scientific knowledge.
The group also prescribes some easy steps to take when "the web performance of an institution is below the expected position according to their academic excellence" and recommonds "university authorities should reconsider their web policy, promoting substantial increases of the volume and quality of their electronic publications".
