TUMS great influence on changing Iran’s health situation

TUMS News: The chancellor of the university emphasized on the prominent role of this institute in the region and its great influence on changing Iran’s health situation in the past and training health policy makers at the present.


Dr. Larijani TUMS Chancellor in his formal meeting with Malasiyan high rank delegation pointed to the presence of 7 faculties, 16 hospitals with more than 4 thousand active beds overall, 38 research centers, 14 educational and health research stations, about 12 hundred academic staff, near 10 thousand students, more than 30 libraries, and more than 80 post graduate programs in this university and added more than half of the PhD education in the medical sector is fulfilled in this university.

In his description of faculty of medicine, Dr. Larijani mentioned: “This faculty has more than 800 faculty members and 5 thousand students and has the courses for MD, PhD, specialty, fellowship, and subspecialty.”

In another part of his lecture, TUMS president, explained some research centers of our university. He said: “We have more than 130 research centers in medical sector in Iran, one third of which are affiliated to Tehran University of Medical Sciences, which is equal to 38 research centers in this university.”

Afterwards Dr. Larijani gave some explanation about some of the research centers. He added that endocrinology and metabolism research center and digestive research center work in affiliation with WHO as its collaborating centers and the research center of endocrinology has been the first scientific research center in Iran now for three years.

He also added that the research center for allergy and asthma is chair of UNESCO in public education in the field of health.

“The universities overall are responsible for health services.” Dr. Larijani added. “And our university is responsible for coverage of one third of Tehran’s population, which is about 4.2 million people.

Concerning TUMS progress in the field of research and information technology, Dr. Larijani added: “In the year 2005 TUMS published more than one thousand and 600 Persian and English articles, one thousand of which were indexed in ISI.”

At the end of his lecture, TUMS president pictured an outline of our university’s future. He said: “I hope we can reach a better situation in the region and in the world.”
