Formal Meeting of Malaysian Health Minister with TUMS Chancellor

TUMS News: The Malaysian group met Dr. Larijani, chancellor of TUMS, and some other executives of the university on April 14th.


The meeting was held with the presence of Dr. Niknam, general director of international affairs of Iran's Health Ministry, Dr. Osama Khatib, head of WHO’s agency in Iran, Dr. Abolhasani, TUMS vice chancellor for health, Dr. Karimi president of Tehran Heart Center, Dr. Mohraz, president of Iran’s AIDS Research center and Dr. Torabi, Dr. Larijani’s consultant.

At the beginning of the session, Dr. Larijani expressed his thanks and warm welcome toward the addressees and started to introduce TUMS as Iran’s symbol of higher education and the most outstanding university in this country, which was founded in 1934 and which is a pioneer in teaching medicine and other sciences with the modern method.

Dr. Chua Soi Led, Malaysian health minister,also expressed his thanks toward Dr. Larijani and his colleagues and emphasized that countries like Iran and Malaysia can have an effective collaboration in the field of health.

He said: “On AIDS research and harm reduction, Iran is a well known country in the world and especially among Islamic countries.” He added that Malaysia has started its own program for harm reduction and likes to learn more about this program in Iran.

At the end of the meeting, Malaysian health minister and his companions visited some outstanding scientific, therapeutic and research centers of Tehran University of Medical Sciences. They visited AIDS research center in Imam Khomeini hospital, bone marrow transplant center in Shariati hospital, and Tehran Heart Center. They also received some information on the visited centers and their facilities in order to get more familiar with TUMS and its facilities and equipments as a sample of scientific development in the Islamic republic of Iran.
