TUMSPR News: Professor Donat Agosti, a specialist for taxonomic literature from the American Museum of Natural History gave a lecture at TUMS School of Public Health on January 19, 2010.
Professor Donat Agosti, a specialist for taxonomic literature from the American Museum of Natural History gave a lecture at Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS) School of Public Health (SPH) on January 19, 2010. The lecture titled “The Impacts of Information Technology on the Prospects of Biodiversity Research” was given for the faculty members and students of the school interested in entomology and vector control. Later on, the group visited the entomology and zoology departments and their laboratories before involving in talks for prospective mutual research collaborations.
The professor has invaluable experience on biodiversity and is a member of numerous scientific associations worldwide. He has also had different scientific posts and affiliations, for instance being a research associate at the Department of Entomology in Smithsonian Institution (1989), the Biodiversity director of the Institute for Environmental Analysis and Development, Los Angeles (2005) and the president of Plazi [digital library] project in Bern, Switzerland since 2008.
The coordination for the attendance of professor Agosti at the school had been made possible by the help of Dr. Ghazi-khansari, the head of TUMS International Relations Office and Dr. Yavar Rasi, the head of SPH Entomology Department.
