International Participants of Iranian Congress of Ophtholmologists Visit TUMS Farabi Hospital

TUMSPR News: A group of renowned ophthalmologist participating in the 19th Iranian Congress of Ophthalmology visited Farabi Hospital on Tuesday afternoon, November 17, 2009.
A group of renowned ophthalmologist, who were mostly from the United States, visited Farabi Hospital in Tuesday afternoon. The group had participated in the 19th Iranian Congress of ophthalmology held on 16 – 19 November 2009.
Among the visitors were Dr. Michael W. Bernnan, from North Carolina who currently serves as the president of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, Dr. George Baerveldt from the department of ophthalmology at the University of California who is reputed for glaucoma research and surgical innovations such as “Baerveldt® Glaucoma Implant”, Dr. Alan Crandall from the University of Utah, a member of the National Board of Examiners and American Board of Ophthalmology, Dr. David K Coats, the chief of ophthalmology at the Texas Children’s Hospital with more than 100 peer-reviewed articles, and Dr. Anthony J. Aldave who directs the Corneal Genetics Laboratory at the Jules Stein Eye Institute, Dr. Alan Goldberg the chief of orbital and ophthalmic plastic surgery at Jules Stein Eye Institute and some other guests visited different parts of the largest ophthalmology in the region, including the research centers of the hospital, different operation rooms, etc.
The guests compared the facilities second to USA in the world with comparable high-tech equipment and level of research.
The group were later, attended a dinner hosted by the Hospital’s head Dr. Jabarvand and were later given a gift by the hospital’s authorities as a sign of friendship.
At the end, Dr. Michael Bernnan delivered a short speech and said “We are here to bring friendship, we are here to bridge science and we are here to promote partnership”.
