TUMSPR News: The largest European University's interuniversity advisor and head of international affairs visited TUMS Hematology-Oncology Research Center following talks with the chancellor, Dr. Larijani on June 1, 2009.

France's Universite Pierre & Marie Curie vice-president and the director of its international affairs, respectively Professor Gilbert Béréziat and Ms. Sabine Lopez visited Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS) Hematology-Oncology Research Center following talks with the chancellor, Dr. Bagher Larijani, on June 1, 2009.

Dr. Ardeshir Ghavamzadeh, the head of the research center, welcoming the guests, highlighted the center's activities, both research and clinical, that put the center at the 3rd position in the world after the US M.D. Anderson Cancer Institute and the Italian counterpart.

Ghavamzadeh said that the center with more than 400 BMT/year resembled Seattle center in the US but as total body irradiation were not being used here the number of complications such as catarcts were kept at lower levels.

Bone marrow transplantation for thalassemia major and other hematological dyscrasias which put the center second to the Italian Center in the world formed other parts of Ghavamzadeh's sayings which were interesting enough to Béréziat, a molecular biologist, to hope for future cooperation.

Later on, the group visited the pediatric oncology ward, accompanied by Dr. Amir Ali Hamidieh, one of those who helped establish the ward two years ago.

The group had visited the Gastrointestinal Diseases Research Center before visiting Hematology-Oncology Research Center (Picture gallery).
