Efforts Underway for an International Leap, TUMS Chancellor Reveals

TUMSPR News: TUMS chancellor Dr. Bagher Larijani, announced that the University was preparing for a great leap in international arenas at Avicenna Festival on Feb. 6, 2010.
The chancellor for Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS), Dr. Bagher Larijani, announced that the institute waspreparing for a great leap in international arenas at Avicenna festival on Feb. 6, 2010.
The chancellor for TUMS, while explaining the undertakings of the University in research domains and its response to the needs of the society he exemplified the establishment of TUMS Kish International Branch and added that out of 47000 students in Malaysia, 27000 were Iranians and it necessitated us to assume a more active role in the region. Presently, the number of students in the international branch of TUMS on Kish Island surmounts 480. He then requested the Supreme Council of Cultural Revolution for the permission to teach in the English language in the aforementioned classes.
The chancellor also informed about the move for obtaining the permission [from the Ministry of Health and Medical Education] to launch a virtual faculty. Presently, all administrative activities of the university are IT-based.
On publication, he said that TUMS publishes 32 scientific journals among which eight have been indexed in ISI web of Knowledge, and 1313 papers are available on such databases. He put the average yearly production of scientific papers at 2500 and said that in the past two years, the papers of the University have been downloaded 600,000 times and 75% of the users have accessed the site from other countries.
Dr. Larijani then hinted at the scientific output of the University and said that it comprised 30% of the state’s in medical sciences and 10% of the whole subjects.
