The 11th Avicenna Festival was Held at TUMS

TUMSPR News: The 11th Avicenna Festival was held at TUMS to treasure educational and research activities of the faculty members and students at Avicenna Conference Hall on February 6, 2010.


To appreciate the educational and research activities of its students and faculty members, Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS) held the 11th Avicenna Festival on February 6, 2010.

The speaker of the parliament, Dr. Ali Larijani, the vice-president for science, Dr. Soltankhah, TUMS chancellor, Dr. Bagher Larijani, the vice-minister for research, Dr. Ghanei and the vice-chancellors, deans of 9 faculties, faculty members and students of the University attended the event.


In his opening speech, Dr. Fotouhi, the vice-chancellor for research, said that the festival that is held annually on the anniversary of the University establishment differed from other national festivals as the best activities in different domains of research and education were in focus than selection of researchers alone.


The chancellor for TUMS, while explaining the undertakings of the University in research domains and its response to the needs of the society he exemplified the establishment of TUMS Kish International Branch. He added that out of 47000 students in Malaysia, 27000 were Iranians and it necessitated us to assume a more active role in the region and asked for the permission to teach in the English language from the Supreme Council of Cultural Revolution.


Dr. Ali Larijani gave the concluding speech. In his speech, the parliament spokesman pointed out that TUMS achievements in different rankings nicely depicted its scientific advances and selection of the name of Avicenna for the festival showed the inclination of the elite to endear their [scientific] heritage. Later on, he touched on some political issues.

In the end, the selected researchers were called to the scene and prizes handed to them by the aforementioned figures.
