Dean of TUMS Medical School and Secretary of the 2nd Medical Ethics Congress Meets Grand Ayatollah Nouri Hamedani

Tehran University of Medical Sciences/ Public Relations English News Service: The Dean of the Medical School of Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS), Dr. Seyed Hassan Imami-Razavi, and the other representatives of the executive committee of the Congress of Medical Ethics, to be held in May 2008, met Ayatollah Nouri Hamedani to seek the ayatollah's guidance and message for the event.
The Dean of TUMS' School of Medicine, Dr. Seyed Hassan Imami-Razavi, met Grand Ayatollah Nouri Hamedani along with his colleagues, as the representatives of the executive committee of the Congress of Medical Ethics which is going to be held in May 2008, to seek his guidance and message for the event.
In this visit, Dr. Imami introduced the agenda and the array of activities in progress and the different subjects to be covered in the 2nd Medical Ethics Congress in Iran.
Initially, the ayatollah greeted the guests and the authorities of the congress thankfully and continued his speech by saying that the Islamic teachings are composed of three parts, beliefs, religious percepts and ethics and emphasized on the importance of medical ethics as a branch of professional ethics. Then the ayatollah put the emphasis on the basic differences between Islamic aspects of medical ethics and medical ethics in other (religious) schools of thoughts and the necessity of paying attention to the way Islam looks at the world and its teachings in ethically-oriented decision making.
The grand marja also added that practical actions for the implementation of ethical teachings in society were one of the duties of the Islamic government. In another part of his speech he quoted a hadith from Imam Sadiq (A.S.) based on which ‘a Moslem has a higher position in contrast to a Moslem who is amiable to the other person’ therefore, this is a principle for physicians and nurses to be amiable to patients, principle which will have a great impact on all our deeds.
