Singapore's A*STAR Chairman, TUMS Chancellor Meet, Collaboration in Focus

Tehran University of Medical Sciences / Public Relations English News Service: The A*STAR chairman and accompanying delegates met with Dr Larijani, TUMS Chancellor at the headquarter of the university on January 23, 2008.


Mr. Lim Chuan Poh, the chairman of the Agency for Science, Technology and Research, A*STAR, with his accompanying delegates met with Dr. Larijani, TUMS chancellor at the headquarter of the university on January 23, 2008.

In this meeting that Dr. Vahid Dastjerdi , the head of International Relations of the university and some other colleagues were present too Dr. Larijan started the meeting by welcoming the guests and briefly introducing the university, its research, educational and clinical achievements among which were the Kish International Branch of the university, more than 3000 kidney transplantations in its hospitals, recruit of distinguished world-class affiliated faculties, Schwann cell injection for spinal cord injuries, α-IF, erythropoietin, .… production, modular training in MPH, Doctorate degree in Public Health, cooperation with UNESCO, George Washington and Alberta Universities, etc.

Then it was Mr. Lim Chuan Poh’s turn to talk about Singapore, an English-speaking country of 4.3 million population, the country’s financial growth, and its R & D goals for the future. He talked about A* STAR Ministry of Trade & Industry, its organizational structure, its budget, and the key tools of the university, human, intellectual, and industrial capitals. Then he elaborated about different phases of the university expansion.

Later on, he talked about The National University of Singapore (NUS) and Nanyang Technology University (NTU) and finally a colleague of his talked on the ways of collaboration including Research in Biomedical and Physical Sciences and in Engineering areas, Short-term Research, Faculty and Student Exchange Programs, etc.

A*STAR agency comprises the Biomedical Research Council (BMRC), the Science and Engineering Research Council (SERC), the A*STAR Graduate Academy (A*GA), the commercialization arm, Exploit Technologies Pte Ltd (ETPL), and the Corporate Group.
