Avicenna Festival’s Nominees in Research for 2010

TUMSPR News: The nominees of the 11th Avicenna Festival were announced on February 6, 2010. The festival is held yearly at TUMS to encourage research and educational activities of the faculty members and the students.


The nominees of the 11th Avicenna Festival were announced on February 6, 2010. The names and affiliations of the selected faculties, students and research bodies are as follows:

In Research


- Dr. Asghar Aghamohammadi, professor in immunology and allergy, from Children’s Medical Center, the selected researcher in clinical sciences


- Dr. Mehdi Mohebali, professor in medical parasitology from the School of Public Health, the selected researcher in basic sciences


- Dr. Nima Parvaneh, assistant professor in pediatrics from Children’s Medical Center, the young clinician investigator


- Dr. Ali Mohammadi, assistant professor in pharmaceutics from the Faculty of Pharmacy, the young investigator in basic sciences

- Dr. Farhad Islami, from the GI Research Center, for publishing the article “Tea drinking habits and oesophageal cancer in a high risk area in northern Iran” in the high impact factor journal, BMJ


- Dr. Ahmad-reza Shahverdi, et al. for the select scientific article with highest number of citations: “Synthesis and effect of silver nanoparticles on the antibacterial activity of different antibiotics against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli”

- Dr. Mohammadali Oshaghi et al. for the finalized research project “ Designing molecular methods Species-specific PCR and PCR-RFLP for visceral Leishmaniasis

- Dr. Sedigheh Marjaneh Hedjazi for getting research grant from resources outside the University


- Dr. Abolghasem Nadim, et al. for authoring the Persian book “Leishmania and Leishmanias” from the School of Public Health


- Dr. Ramin Kordi, et al. for authoring the English book “Combat Sports Medicine” published by Springer


- Dr. Ali Hamidieh for establishing the non-relative donors database at Hematology - Oncology and BMT Research Center


- Dr. Kheirollah Gholami, pharmacist from the Faculty of Pharmacy, for proposing and helping establish Hospital-based Pharmacies


- Dr. Maryam Niati, from the School of Public Health and Dr. Yalda Hosseinzadeh Ardekani from the Faculty of Pharmacy for separate Ph.D. thesis research; respectively, Molecular and gene sequencing evaluations of mannose-binding protein in Acanthamoeba Castellanii, A. griffini and A. palstinansis and A new method in diagnosing Keratitis and Selective and non-selective studies of Tramadol pharmacokinetics in Healthy Iranian Individuals



- Mr. Mojtaba Safari from the School of Medicine and Mr. Ali Memarian from the School of Public Health for separate M.Sc. thesis research; respectively, Evaluating the expression of p53 gene in U87 cell line infected with adenovirus by CDNA-AFLP and Evaluating WNT gene expression in Iranian patients with Acute and chronic leukemia

As of 2007 and based on the agreement between TUMS and University of Tehran (UT) for concreting the ties between the two universities, two researchers have been introduced yearly to research festivals held by the two. This year’s nominees are:

1- Dr. Mohammadreza Ganjali, professor in electrochemistry from UT, the selec researcher

2- Dr. Parviz Nowrouzi, from the UT Electrochemical Research Center for select research project

The festival is held yearly at TUMS to encourage research and educational activities of the faculty members and the students.
