Dr. Gezairy, the regional director of the World Health organization (WHO) for the Mediterranean Region in a letter to Dr. Lankarani, the Minister of Health and Medical Education congratulated him and the laboratory staff for the high level of laboratory performance. The laboratory is part of the Faculty of Public Health of Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS).
Dr. Gezayeri in his letters refers to the visit made by Dr. Humayun Asyhar, the Regional Polio Laboratory Network Coordinator on 9-13 March, 2008 for the annual accreditation of the Intratypic Differentiation (ITD) Laboratory, and writes:
Dear Dr. Lankarani,
I wish to refer to the visit of Dr. Humayun Asghar, Regional Polio Laboratory Network Coordinator, WHO/ EMRO, to Islamic Republic of Iran from 9-13 March 2008 for the annual accreditation of the Intratypic Differentiation (ITD) Laboratory.
I am pleased to note that the laboratory has performed its activities to a high standard with optimum scores obtained in laboratory performance indicators. Based on the overall review of the past 12 months the Iran ITD Laboratory has been accredited by WHO for the period February 2008 to January 2009.
It gives me pleasure to congratulate your Excellency and the laboratory staff for the excellent performance. I am attaching the recommendation made by Dr. Asghar to sustain the high level of laboratory performance, and I am confident that these recommendations, will receive your Excellency's approval.
I wash to take this opportunity to acknowledge with appreciation the excellent contribution that Islamic Republic of Iran continues to make to the global initiative on polio eradication.
I look forward to continued collaboration in our efforts to achieve global polio eradication in the future.
