Dr. Bagher Larijani, TUMS’ Chancellor, in a message to his colleagues at the university sent happy New Year’s greetings and thanked them for their last year’s efforts.

Dr. Larijani in his message has said:

“Dear Colleagues and Students

We left behind a year full of ups and downs and now in Rabi’ Month (Lunar Calendar) which has coincided with the Prophet Mohammad’s birthday and the nature’s freshness, we welcome the New Year and by saying happy New Year to you and your dear families I appreciate all the precious activities you took part in the domains of education, research and services you provided.

Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS) by the help of God and your assistance could, despite difficulties, pursue its effective activities and take care of its responsibilities in its three organizational domains.

In its educational dimensions, a great deal of efforts started to organize and reform processes and two faculties, Traditional Medicine and New Medical Technologies were established. In addition, the International Branch of TUMS was established in Kish Island in February, 2008. By this, we hope to further the university’s horizons at the international arena and we hope to solve the probable difficulties ahead. In promoting educational levels, which is the main objective of this domain, important and effective steps were taken such as reforming the current educational courses, a distance learning system was launched and some other to empower faculty members and students and a lot more are on the way.

In research, TUMS with more than 2000 papers and reputed projects and research for the 5th consecutive years ranked first at Razi Research Festival. More Than 20% of the indexed articles in medical science databases were from TUMS and 3% of the indexed articles in international databases.

In providing (Medical and health) services, which are the largest connection with the society, we witness positive changes, both in development of services and in scientific innovation.

Clinical governance which is one of the strategies for the promotion of the quality of provided services is presently in progress at the affiliated hospitals of the university by the efforts of our colleagues. We hope that by the high ambition of all the dear colleagues and responsible authorities, and by the help of our dear people achieve success in this demanding responsibility which is full of obstacles.

The great help of all our colleagues, including faculty members, managers, employees, dear students which would shape the Islamic country’s future and are the focal point of educational and research activities, is the only way for reforming different domains of the university. Undoubtedly, the university would succeed in improving the educational and research processes by the help of you.

In the end, I would like to once again endear your great efforts in the past year and wish you and your respected families sound health. I wish the New Year to be full of boon and blessing for country, in general, and you, in particular”.
