TUMS Chancellor Warns of the Toll Physical Inactivity is Taking of Our Health

TUMSPR News: The chancellor for Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS), Dr. Bagher LArijani, warned of physical inactivity of about 6o percent of the population and encouraged people to at least engage in 20 minutes of sporting events every other day.


The chancellor for Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS), Dr. Bagher Larijani, warned of physical inactivity of about 6o percent of the population and encouraged people to at least engage in 20 minutes of sporting events every other day.

TUMS chancellor, Dr. Bagher LArijani, who is the head of TUMS Endocrinology Research Center too, in an interview with Fars News Agency, warned of the stationary life style of about 60 percent of the population and and recommended participating in sports as little as 20 minutes per day, three times a week on the condition that the activity result in a rise in the individual' heart beat to prevent some major metabolic disorders such as diabetes, osteoporosis, and resistance to insulin.

An endocrinologist himself, the chancellor put the number of people in Tehran with insulin resistance to 25 percent and cautioned about the health risks it would cause.

Dr. Larijani believed that those with insulin resistance run greater risks for metabolic disorders.
