TUMS’ Chancellor Thanks Outgoing WHO Representative in Iran

TUMSPR News: Dr. Larijani, in a session attended by the authorities of Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS), emphasized Dr. Mubasher Sheikh’s remarkable efforts as indispensable.



Dr. Larijani, in a session attended by the authorities of Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS), thanked Dr. Mubasher Sheikh for his 4-year long efforts in Iran. At the session, Dr. Larijani, emphasized the World Health organization’s (WHO) cooperation in materializing the health objectives and especially Dr. Mubasher Sheik’s remarkable efforts as indispensable.

The chancellor added that during Dr. Mubasher Sheikh mission in Iran, Iran-WHO cooperations not only developed but also got well-organized. He mentioned the cooperation of WHO with Endocrinology & Metabolism and Gastroenterology Research Centers as examples of the cooperation and said that during Dr. Sheikh’s work life in Iran these centers developed to official collaborators of WHO. He also thanked Sheikh for his close cooperation with TUMS’ School of Public Health and TUMS vice-chancellor for Health and added that the session was for honoring Dr. Sheikh’s undertakings.


Dr. Mesdaghinia, dean of the School of Public Health, thanked Dr. Mobasher Sheikh for troubles he had taken during the years in office and called him a good friend of TUMS. Then, he congratulated Dr. Sheikh for his new position in Geneva, Switzerland and said, “During your term in WHO office in Iran drastic changes took IANPHI1 which is an international society for active institutes in the health sector comprises vast cooperation and these cooperations regarding disasters and education can create new dimensions and I hope you pursue these important tasks at your new position too.


According to this report Dr. Farid Abolhassani, the vice- chancellor for health, while welcoming Dr. Mubasher Sheikh said, “I have been in touch with WHO office in Iran regarding primary health care. There has been this cooperation from the time of Dr. Bille and incidently Dr. Bille, like you, was from Pakistan and maybe this is a good sign of the good cooperation between Iran & pakistan.


According to this report Dr. Shafie, the dean of Pharmacy Faculty, thanking Dr. Mubasher Sheikh, mentioned the advances in pharmaceutical researches in Iran exemplifying production of novel drugs such as Angipars, used for treating diabetic foot ulcers, and the products and research in the nanobiotechnology field and asked him to provide help for their international marketing and usage.

This report added Dr. Vahid_ Dastjerdi, the head of TUMS’ International Relations office, by mentioning cooperations of WHO office in Iran in the International projects of the university, thanked Dr. Sheikh’s undertakings.


And then Dr. Shams-Ardekani, TUMS' vice-chancellor for Food and Drug and the dean of Traditional Medicine Faculty, briefly introduced the faculty’s capabilities in holding courses in traditional medicine at masters degree and in near future at Ph.D. levels and his readiness for future cooperations.


Finally it was Dr. Mubasher Sheikh’s turn to speak. He expressed his pleasure for the session being held to commemorate him and thanked Dr. Larijani and his colleagues. Then, he added, “My colleagues and I at WHO office in Iran had a very vast and enjoyable cooperation with the health authorities in Iran and Iran has great potentials for collaboration with WHO. In the health sector we had and still have numerous cooperations with TUMS at regional levels which TUMS has an essential role in these infrastructural collaborations.

He continued that, “I would leave Iran for Geneva and there I would take the responsibility for the human resources office and I think there are huge potentials for continuing cooperations with Iran. I have talked to Dr. Malek-Afzali and Dr. Larijani on these issues and in regards to the worldwide shortages in human resources in the health sector, I think the most important capitol would be human resources and I hope to have effective cooperation with Iran & TUMS on training human resources.

“Financial and non_ financial support for these cooperations could help promote health education and quality of human resources and you could especially help us especially for neighboring and African countries.

At the end, Dr. Larijani presented a gift and an award plaque to thank Dr. Mubasher Sheikh.
