TUMS Chancellor at the Opening Ceremony of the New Educational Year: More Support and Devotion is Needed for the Development of the Country and Science

TUMSPR News: The inaugural ceremony of the new educational year started at TUMS and UT at Allameh Amini Hall located in University of Tehran, on September 29, 2008.
Dr. Larijani’s opening speech, at the presence of the first vice-presidents, Dr. Davoudi, the vice-president for Science, Dr. Vaez-zadeh, Dr. Rahbar, Tehran University’s Chancellor, some parliament members and authorities, faculty members and students of both universities, focused on higher education in Iran and the opportunity it had to take to play its indispensable role in developing the country at the present time with the positive mindset towards science, research and technology and also the preparation of the scientific map of the state.
He exemplified Iran’s rank in knowledge production assessed by Iranian papers indexed at ISI to be 40 and by Scopus criteria to be 25 among 146 countries. The chancellor believed the achievements had been the result of supportive measures for universities and research centers by the state but he believed more support and attention were needed for more advanced development of the country and science.
The first vice-president, Mr. Davoudi, had attended the ceremony to officially announce the opening of both universities.
