The New Educational Year at TUMS, UT Commences Officially by the First Vice-President’s Speech

TUMSPR News: The inaugural ceremony of the new educational year started at TUMS and UT at Allameh Amini Hall, Situated at University of Tehran, before Mr. Davoudi, the first vice-president, Dr Vaez-zadeh, the vice-president for Science on September 29, 2008.

The meeting started by the speech of Dr. Larijani, Tehran University of Medical Sciences’ (TUMS) Chancellor, at the presence of Mr. Davoudi, the first vice-president, Dr Vaez-zadeh, the vice-president for Science, Dr. Rahbar, Tehran University’s Chancellor, some parliament members and authorities, faculty members and students of both universities.

In his speech the chancellor talked about the indispensable role of universities in developing the country and their achievements in the world. Dr Vahid Dastjrrdi, TUMS' Director for Inter-University & International Relations, talked on the bilateral responsibilities of universities towards the elite and vice-versa and said that universities were the hub for the elite and they had tow major responsibilities: first, acceleration of scientific activities and second, enrichment of teaching and learning processes.

Dr. Rahbar, Tehran University’s (TU) chancellor commented on the coincidence of the opening of Universities and the commemoration of the imposed war on the country in the early 90’s and believed the commonplace of both environments, war fronts in those years and universities now, were defending Islam frontiers, safekeeping religion of Islam and Islamic Republic of Iran.

He added that the youth had enough self-confidence now to be a winner in the arena of science in the world.

Dr. Davoudi, the first vice- president, by congratulating the opening of universities believed universities were the place where science and thought were weaved together to produce knowledgeable thinking individuals and said if universities digressed from this path they would turn into a force against their values.

At the and of the ceremony the first to third rank students from the National Entrance Exam for different fields of study at both universities were given a plaque of commendation while being applauded by the audience.
