State’s Scientific Mapping Steering Workgroups Meet

TUMS PR News: Symposium on Scientific Mapping, a common Ground on the Objectives of the 20-Year Vision Plan of the Country, was held at Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS).


Dr. Larijani, TUMS chancellor, started this day-long symposium by talking about the history of scientific mapping and reminding the objectives of the state’s 20-year vision plan.

In this symposium, Dr. Vaez-zadeh, the president’s deputy for science, Dr. Lankarani, the minister of health, Dr. Mokhber, the secretary of supreme cultural revolution council and a number of scientific figures were present.

Dr. Larijani, the head of integration and designation commission for scientific mapping, said that the Research and Technology Act was prepared in 2005 and the Comprehensive Systems of Technology Development in the same year by the Scientific and Industrial Research Organization. The chancellor said that the Higher Education Development Act and Priority Setting have been prepared by the deputy for education at the ministry of science and scientific and industrial research organization respectively and, after mentioning all the acts he said that the leader has asked the statesmen and the supreme cultural revolution council to prepare a comprehensive scientific map and we should pinpoint the objectives of the map to materialize the status envisioned by the 20- year plan.

He continued his lecture by saying that the scientific map was a comprehensive, harmonious and dynamic compilation of goals, policies, programs and essentials of an inductive technological evolution and innovation based on Iranian-Islamic values and foresighting for achieving the goals of the vision plan.

He said that in the 2025 horizons of the 20-year vision plan, Iran is a developed country that ranks first economically, scientifically and technologically in the region and a country with Islamic and revolutionary identity and inspirational in the Moslem world and constructive and effective in international relations interaction.

TUMS chancellor said that the volitions of the vision plan are sovereignty, wealth creation, maintaining public heath, and ranking first in the region and fair competition with other countries.

Then, Dr. Larijani talked on the scientific maps of Japan and England and said that “We have formed the expert committees and we have to prepare 3-4 scenarios in each part to be able to choose the one that has been comprehensively evaluated and expertly prepared”.

He said that writing scenarios is a normal issue and in foresighting and science know- how we should perceive the relation between the structure of development and advancement of science and know the structure of conventional development to produce a new structure. He also side that “We should discover the priorities in science and technology and look for human resources and re-engineer structures”. He also said that networking would ply an important role.

TUMS chancellor said that in the preparation of the scientific map, 9 committees had been formed with three major committees, as the science and technology cycle, comprising of education, research and technology committees and some subject specialized sub-committees such as interdisciplinary, applied, health, biological, basic and social sciences, Islamic teachings and art, and national priorities were in place.

He said that the three major committees will determine the principles and the priority-setting criteria for the specialized committees and they will evaluate the present status and will design the desirable status. The three committees will also be active in strategy planning, determining approaches and education based on related theoretical disciplines, innovation and foresighting.
