Professor Sonja Brentjes, a faculty member of Seville University, who had participated at the “Culture and Civilization History of the Islam and Iran” congress and has worked for more than 20 years on the Euclid’s Elements of the 9th century and is interested about Islamic civilization from the 8th to 17th century, expressed her ideas about the qualities of an attractive congress.
Professor Brentjes says “As for a better congress, well, this is rather simple and straightforward. Keep to standard academic norms. Do not let ideology overtake research. Do not give a floor to unqualified speakers. Leave space for discussion. Such things”.
As for her other works, she is primarily interested in exploring traditional historiographical views of the history of the sciences in Islamic societies and their relationships with other cultures. As a result, her research focuses on the sciences taught in madrasas, courtly and other patronage for science and cross-cultural exchange of knowledge.
