Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS) with its three District Health Centers, sixteen hospitals and a regionally important AIDS Research Center has always played an active role throughout the year for producing knowledge and disseminating information on HIV/AIDS, especially during AIDS Week held in Iran.

World AIDS Day, December 1, 2009, marked the beginning of a-week-long awareness propaganda by the health care staff under TUMS Deputy of Health which is responsible for the health of about one-third of the Tehran population, something about 4.2 million people. Observing the day had started by erecting an exhibition at Allameh Conference Hall in University of Tehran and counseling, holding educational classes, providing statistics of the undertaken activities, a handicraft exhibition by “HIV Positive Club” and provision of consultation via telephone at the Center for Counseling Behavioral Disorders at Imam Khomeini Complex Hospital . But this year’s programs took a different turn which was brought about by a little bit of courage and an open mind to take the message to the heart of the capital, to Tehran’s largest underground station “Imam Khomeini Metro Station” at downtown Bazaar area for three days, where people hugely welcomed the move.
