Kidney Pluripotent Stem Cells Separated & Identified at TUMS for the Fist Time

TUMSPR News: For the first time, the researchers at TUMS Imam Khomeini Hospital separated and identified pluripotent stem cells of kidney.


Dr. Abbassi, the research project’s executive, said that the research had been the joint work of nephrology and urology wards researchers and TUMS’ Iranian Tissue Bank in the past two years and the researchers for the first time separated and identified kidney stem cells.

Use of stem cells for the treatment of diseases is an advanced way of treating diseases and requires sophisticated technology that a few countries, including Iran posses the capability.

The researchers are determined to prevent and treat kidney diseases by discovering the way these cells multiply and differentiate and by studying the effects drugs on them.
