Iran to Hold the 2nd Meeting of OIC, Health Minister Says in a Press Conference

TUMSPR News: In a press conference held at Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS), Dr. Kamran Bagher Lankarani, Iran’s Health Minister, highlighted the theme and the programs of the second meeting of health ministers from Organization of Islamic Countries (OIC) on Saturday Feb 28, 2009.
The second meeting of OIC Health Ministers will be held in Tehran, Iran on Feb 29, 2009, said the Iranian Health Minister, Dr. Lankarani, in a press conference held at Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS) on Saturday Feb 28, 2009.
The Health Minister said the meeting would last from 1 – 4 March, 2009. Health experts discussions would be in progress for the first two days and the 3rd and 4th days the health ministers would discuss health issues of concern to OIC.
This year’s theme would be “Equity in Health” for Islamic countries.
The discussions would include:
- The health situation in the Palestine in postwar Gaza
- The priorities in the health system of Islamic countries on communicable and non-communicable diseases
- Preparedness for disasters
- Ways of materializing the objectives of the first and second meetings
The Minister also mentioned an exhibition held alongside the meeting on the achievements of IR of Iran in pharmaceutical and medical instruments.
OIC and its related organizations such as ISESCO, COMSTEc, SESRIC, the World Health Organization (WHO), WHO Office in Tehran, UNFPA, UNICEF, UNRAWA, ICRC, and the World Organization for AIDS, Flood and Malaria Combat have helped Iran’s Ministry of Health and medical Education organize the meeting.
