The Health Minister calls TUMS a pioneer in research throughout the country with a noticeable lead over counterparting universities

TUMSPR News: At the hearing on TUMS’ Brain and Spinal Injury Research Center's (BASIR) Project Yearly Report, Iran’s Health Minister, Dr. Lankarani, accompanied by TUMS’ Chancellor, Dr. Larijani, while being updated about the latest achievements of Spinal Cord Injury Repair by Schwann Cells Project, calls the University a pioneer in research throughout the country with a noticeable lead over counterparting universities across the country on September 16, 2008.
The Health Minister visited Tehran University of Medical Sciences', (TUMS’), Brain and Spinal Injury Research (BASIR) Center, at Imam Khomeini Hospital for a hearing on the project’s yearly report on the evening of September 16, 2008.
In his speech, Dr. Lankarani said it was very important that a project to be backed by a university chancellor; something that had happened about the present one.
Additionally, the minister by pinpointing the scientific achievements of TUMS in research called the university a pioneer in research throughout the country with a noticeable lead over other universities domestically.
Dr. Lankarani said, “Twenty-four months ago the project began its activities in Tehran University and Tehran University of Medical Sciences and now it has so strongly taken roots and has sprouted which each sprout could be a new large research itself and I congratulate you for the great job you have done”.
On animal models he said, “As far as I know, producing animal models [for the study of different diseases] belongs to a few centers in the world and success in this area by TUMS, as Dr. Dehpour (a pharmacology faculty member) pointed out, is a grass-root effort to enrich evidence-based studies here and I take the opportunity to congratulate you on this too. Finally, the minister thanked Dr. Larijani for his unconditional support, Dr. Imami-Razavi, the former dean of TUMS’ School of Medicine and current deputy of health of the ministry, for his efforts and cooperation regarding the project, Dr. Mozafari from Tehran University and all of those who had the opportunity to speak or not.
