TUMSPR News: A group of French physicians met with Dr. Larijani, the chancellor for Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS) on Saturday January 10, 2009 for discussing future cooperations.
A group of French Physicians invited to Iran by Iran's Cultural Heritage Organization met with Tehran university of Medical Sciences' chancellor, Dr. Larijani on Saturday January 10, 2009. This preliminary session was held to discuss upcoming scientific collaborations.
TUMS chancellor briefly introduced the University, its educational system, research activities undertaken by the university, the health system it runs and the scope of population coverage benefiting from the services offered by the university and touched the history of Iran–France scientific cooperations in the past, e.g. dean of faculty of medicine at early days of University of Tehran establishment, Professor Auberlen and later dispatch of the first students to France to study medicine and the recent conference held jointly by the university and the French embassy on the History of Traditional Medicine in Iran and India.
The French physicians consisting of Professors Yevan Calmus and Jean Dupouy Vamet and medical doctors Hechmati, Pascal Corlieu and Pascal Hilliguin asked some detailed questions regarding post-graduation studies of general practitioners in Iran, recruitment of fellows for different fields of medicine, the insurance system and its coverage in Iran. Later, Dr. Hechmati proposed establishment of a joint Iran-France hematology, oncology association and collaboration for hematologic research. The French group unanimously admired the level and degree of research and education at TUMS and looked for future talks for further discussions concerning scientific collaboration.
The group will visit some TUMS research centers on the coming days.
