The congress hosted speakers and participants from Iran, Italy, Pakistan and some other countries. The chairman of the congress Dr. Bagher Larijani, the chancellor of Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS), Dr. Mostafa Sadeghi, the congress secretary, invitees from Italy's Turin Maria Vittorio University, the Italian Medical Studies Institute, Pakistan Association of Anesthesiologists and some other groups and organizations from Iran or other countries.

In his opening remarks, the congress chairman said that TUMS Department of Anesthesiology has had the highest number of the field's graduates in Iran in comparison to similar institutions and hinted at the relatively rapid growth in medical sciences knowledge production among other branches of science.

Sadeghi, the congress secretary, believed that the long history of medicine in Iran and in the Muslim world was a precious uncovered jewel that has lost some of its glitters but there is a great deal of efforts to reinstate the past glory. He exemplified the recent knowledge [on anesthesiology and intubation] in comparison with the ancient texts depicting advanced understandings of the sciences in the past.

Dr. Zahid Hussain Khan, the scientific secretary of the congress, thanking Iranian authorities for holding the congress, called Avicenna as one who had conceptualized intratracheal intubation and even use of fiberoscopy.
