TUMS Public Relations News Service: Expressing the happiness of participating in CDFMIC, general director of international affairs of Iran's health ministry apologized on behalf of Dr. Lankarani, Iran’s health minister for his absence in the meeting and read his message about the conference.

In a part of the special message from the minister that Dr. Niknam general director of international affairs of Iran's health ministry read in the opening session of the first conference of deans of medical faculties of Islamic countries,it was emphasized:

“This is a good and auspicious occasion for me to witness gathering of the respected deans of medical schools of the major Islamic countries in Kish Island, the pearl of Persian Gulf, and in a region where most transnational Islamic thoughts have met and been flourished to their perfection.

I would like to praise the invaluable initiative by Tehran University of Medical Science and Dr. Larijani in particular, for their true efforts for realization of this meeting.

I am sure that all of you agree with the main goal of the meeting that is to further strengthen the Islamic Unity in Scientific and Technical grounds as well as many other points of strength and excellence that is presently existent with or is potentially roaming in the Islamic states.

Taking a better look at the world history, we would learn that for many centuries and in the middle ages in particular, when the people in the non-Islamic world, were suffering from disease and ignorance and were being deprived of their basic human rights, Islam and Islamic wisdom brought the Islamic states and the entire world, the best and the most suitable ground for scientific development; indeed the Islamic scholars initiated a process which resulted in our today's science and technology that every body in the world is now enjoying.

I do not want to take your precious time going into detail on how and why the Islamic states lost such valuable leadership in science and technology; but I am sure the main reason behind such drastic change was mainly due to ignoring the importance of Islamic Unity; the unity which I wish to translate it as the shared Islamic wisdom.

Why this happened, is simply because, we as the religious brothers and sisters, Islamic scholars and authorities have paid less attention to what our prophet Mohammad (PUH) persistently instructed all Muslims to follow which is (و امرهم شورا بينهم) that is to take the best advantage of each other's knowledge.

We need to revive what has been lost from our hands and to reunite the Muslim states in all fronts; I believe science and technology is one of the most important aspects of the Islamic Unity which necessitate more cooperation and more harmonized efforts for its ultimate materialization and success.

Taking recent advantage in medical science in IR Iran such as stem cell science, treatment of spinal cord injuries and many unquoted ones and the excellent and valuable experiences such as the Primary Health Care Delivery System, I Take the opportunity to declare my country's readiness to cooperate with all medical schools in Islamic world towards establishment of a unique and successful model of scientific cooperation among the Muslim states and towards what my colleagues in TUMS would propose as the "Islamic Virtual University" and what I am sure would receive your kind support to its materialization in near future."
