Dr. Larijani, Briefs the President of the World Transplant Games Federation at Meeting with the Head of Iran's Expediency Council, Ayatollah Rafsanjani

TUMSPR News: Dr. Bagher Larijani, the Chancellor for Tehran University of Medical Science, (TUMS), briefed the President of the World Transplant Games Federation (WTGF), Olivier Coustere, on the state of organ transplant in Iran in a meeting with the head of Iran's Expediency Council, Ayatollah Rafsanjani, on November 20, 2008.
The Chancellor for Tehran University of Medical Science, (TUMS), Dr. Bagher Larijani, explained the state of organ transplant to the President of the World Transplant Games Federation (WTGF), Olivier Coustere on the state of organ transplant in Iran. He knew Iran's success in kidney, liver, bone marrow, stem cell, heart and other organs transplants as remarkable and painted a hopeful picture of the procedure for future years to come.
Ayatollah Hashemi Rafsanjani, the head of Iran's Expediency Council, believed the movement for organ transplantation and aiding patients with specific diseases in Iran as one of Iran's honors. He said that at the beginning there seemed to be conflicts with Shariaa laws but clarification by clergies proved this to be a humane act and it was considered some kind of servitude to God and it has become some part of the Islamic culture.
The former president of Iran, knew the commitment for participation of patients with specific diseases in sports activities and trying to improve their survival rate as something positive that has to be appreciated and said Iranian sportsmen with physical ailments had won precious victories for Iran in recent years.
He also hoped that by Iran's success in organ transplant and the move for worldwide cooperation on this issue, countries could benefit from each other's experiences.
Mr. Olivier Coustere, the President of the World Transplant Games Federation (WTGF), explained the objectives leading to the foundation of the federation and praised Iran's high scientific and technical achievements in organ transplant and admitted that Iran had the lead in this field.
The 11th Congress of the Middle East Society for Organ Transplantation was to take place in Shiraz, Iran 17 - 20 November 2008 and the president for the federation had sent a message and had promised to participate in the event.
