Cross Country Heads of Public Relations from Medical Sciences Universities Meet in TUMS

Tehran University of Medical Sciences / English news service: Heads of public relations offices from different medical sciences universities met on January 5, 2008 in Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS) to discuss their goals and share their experiences.


Heads of public relations offices for medical sciences universities from diferrent universities of medical sciences met on January 5, 2008 in Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS) to discuss their goals and share their experiences. In the session held by TUMS’ Public Relations Office, headed by Dr. Gatmiri, heads of public relations offices belonging to the state’s medical universities and head of public relations bureau of the Ministry of Health and Medical Education, Dr. Zarenezhad, met to share experience and be acquainted with different sections of TUMS’ Public Relations Office, as Dr. Zarenezhad put it.

In his opening remarks, Dr. Zarenezhad invited the audience to visit different sections of the Public Relations Office of TUMS, as the leading university of the country, share their experience and express their opinions to promote the present state of the offices.

He added that organizational changes and newly updated regulations to hire experts in the offices are on the way and the obstacles to do so have been removed by the help of the minister. The head of the bureau noted that employment of international affairs experts might be included in the charts of the offices but cautioned of the tendency of solely leaning to international affairs by universities.

In the remainder of the session, Dr. Gatmiri, the head of TUMS Public Relations Office, belived such sessions were useful tools for the promotion of health nationally.

He said that Tehran University of Medical Sciences, with 6 vice chancellors, 9 faculties, 16 hospitals, more than 40research centers, 9 research stations around the country, 3 District Health Centers, 1300 faculty members, 10,000 students, 10,000 employees, 30 libraries and more than 80 educational programs necessitates enormous time and energy and called it a momentous responsibility for the visualization of all academic and non-academic activities of the university. He also said that medical universities might not achieve their goals without successful public relations offices.
