TUMS Public Relations English News Service: Dr. Larijani, TUMS’ chancellor, knew the scientific growth of Tehran University of Medical Sciences as remarkable and a leading university in the region.
Dr. Larijani, TUMS’ chancellor, Began his speech by an introduction on TUMS and said this university encompasses 9 faculties in medical sciences, 15 hospitals with more than 4000 beds, 41 research centers, 15 health research stations in 11 provinces in the country, more than 10,000 students, around 1300 faculty members, more than 130 educational programs, 10000 students & 2000 students at postgraduate degrees and the highest number of medical students in the state’s universities in medical field.
The chancellor said the university has moved to graduate and postgraduate enrollments and about 30% if its students are at these levels. He then named 11 new educational fields established in 2006 including PhD degree in reproductive health, MD-MPH, Interventional cardiology and rhinology fellowships, etc and the ones established in 2007 such as implantology fellowship, nanotechnology PhD, dermatopathology, and echocardiography fellowships
Establishing a comprehensive IT-based educational program in all faculties of TUMS
Digitizing all documents for all graduates of the university since 1919
Establishing a Herbal Medicine Faculty
31 Research Project contracts, national and international
Online CME courses
Establishing TUMS’ Kish Branch, an international university
Achieving the first position in Razi Science Festival for the 5th consecutive year
A 64% growth rate of indexed articles in ISI/SCI journals from 2004 to 2006
More than 8% of all citations to scientific articles of the country, compared to 5% in 2002
Around 10% (9.4%) of all domestic scientific productions of the country in 2006 compared to 6% in 200
Publication of 24 scientific journals with 5000 articles and a download rate of more than 230,000

Professor Larijani finally underlined the future programs of the university and said achieving the 20-year vision plan of the country and pioneering in science based on foresighting in the health sector as the goals of TUMS.
