7 Days to Commemorate World Health Day 2008 in Iran

TUMSPR News: World Health Day, on 7 April, marks the founding of the World Health Organization and is an opportunity to draw worldwide attention to global health each year. In Iran a week has been named for the occasion to galvanize the importance of the day.


On April 27,2002the Commission for Special Days of the Council for Public Culture approved the adoption of the day and at the 503rd session of the Iran’s Supreme Cultural Revolution Council (SCRC) it was included in the official calendar of the state and for the past 5 years this day has been commemorated by the Ministry of Health & Medical Education and Medical Universities around the country.

This year’s motto is “Protecting Health from Climate Change” and the programs for the aforementioned week are intended to:

Commemorate the activities in the health sector and those involved in health activities, clarify the importance of the health subject as the framework for a sustainable development, call for public cooperation and participation for materializing a healthy society, clarify the objectives of “ Healthy human is the core of a sustainable development”, promote intersectoral cooperation, attract public sector cooperation through NGOs and donors, sensitize the government and the congress on the issue and direct cultural activities for promoting health in the society.

The titles for the days of the Health Week, this year are:

Saturday, April 5, 2008: Health and IntersectoralCooperation
Sunday, April 6, 2008: Health and Climate Change
Monday, April 7, 2008: Health, Nutrition and at Risk Groups
Tuesday, April 8, 2008: Health and New Technologies
Wednesday, April 9, 2008: Health and Family Doctor
Thursday, April 10, 2008: Health and Smoke Free Societies
Friday, April 11, 2008: Health and Physical Activity
