Syria's National and Provincial Authorities Visit TUMS' Center for Addiction Studies

TUMSPR News: A high-ranking delegation from Syria visited Iran's National Center for Addiction Studies (INCAS), which is run by Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS) on April 12, 2009.


A delegation of eight composed of Syria's national and provincial authorities, visited Iran's National Center for Addiction Studies (INCAS), which is run by Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS), on April 12, 2009. The group had been in Iran upon the invitation made by Iran's Health Ministry's Non-communicable Department to get informed about HIV/AIDS control and management programs.

In a two-hour meeting, the authorities of the center introduced the educational, research and clinical programs and the offered services and Dr. Mohammad-Reza Haddadi, head of the center's Buprenorphine Clinic, briefed the delegation on different opiate agonist maintenance therapies and health services offered in public and private sectors and prisons in Iran, detoxification, the ongoing research and projects on addiction. Offering educational courses for psychiatrist, general practitioners and psychologist by the center and programs for HIV/AIDS control and harm reduction in Iran and the middle-east were other topics covered in the discussions.
