The Reflections of the Foreign Guests upon the Closure of the 2nd International Medical Ethics Congress in Iran -- Part 1
Date: 5/7/2008

TUMSPR News: On the last day of the 2nd International Medical Ethics Congress, the foreign guests of the congress reflected upon the congress in answer to the questions put forward by the representative of TUMS Public Relations office.

On the last day of the 2nd International Medical Ethics Congress, the foreign guests of the congress refleced upon the congress in answer to the questions put forward by the representative of TUMS Public Relation office. Below, are the comments of one of the guests from Greece, Professor Byron Kaldis.

Q- Dear Sir, first, I’d like you to introduce yourself?

A- My name is Byron Kaldis, I m a professor of philosophy from Athens University in Greece.

Q- What’s your general evaluation of the 2nd International Medical Ethics Congress held in Iran?

A- The first two days we’ve seen so far, I am very impressed by the high level of organization compared to the number of people you had to coordinate and also the fact that something else that impressed me very much, because I’ve already organized some smaller things, is that there was always the audience present while the speeches were given, in that respect I am impressed by both. I don’t know how big the organization committee was but I am impressed by the disproportionate amount of people and the good quality. And also the place was very good and I must say the place was excellent.

Q- Thanks, and do you have any suggestions for the upcoming congresses, the points that have to be covered?

A- I tell you one thing that happened. We were a bit late because we were the second group. The first group was a bit late and then the coffee break was a little bit late. That’s not the problem but we had to cut the discussions a bit short, although there were people who were interested and they might have wanted fuller and longer discussions.

I think we could have, maybe smaller number of lecturers, instead of six or seven we could have four and at maximum five, and then have more time for discussion or one or two questions immediately after each speaker and then general discussions at the end. That’s one thing I would recommend, or another thing that you might do is have four or maybe five speakers and then one person, discussant, maybe from your university or from (The guests), its even better from your university who already knows what they are going to say in advance and discuss and say a few ideas because sometime the audience want to ask, sometime some people are shy and they haven’t understood so the discussion let’s say in 10 minutes with two critical points, speaker A said this and speaker B said that and that will kindle the discussion and give fire to the discussion that’s one good idea (that I would propose).

Q- How do you assess Tehran University of Medical Sciences?

A- On the basis of this?

Q- Yes, sir and in general.

A- Because I’ve heard a word or two very good points about it. But, in terms of the organization, it’s excellent and also the web site.

Q- Which parts do you usually visit? The main site of TUMS or the public relations’?

A- Yes, I have definitely seen public relations’ and I am impressed by the web site but the conference web site maybe, could be better, more updated let’s say every week.

Q- Thanks. And as the last questions, how do you see Iranians?

A- Oh, I love Iranians, because I have had long-standing friends from Iran that I know even when I was student, so even now I still have one of my best friends who is an Iranian.

Q- I appreciate for the time!

A- I think you are a very great people.

Q- Thanks, sir.

A- I mean it, I mean it. Iranians are very nice.

Q- Thanks!
