Pulmonary Hydatid Cyst Tops Other Forms of the Disease in a Research Released by Bahrami Children’s Hospital

TUMSPR News: In a study by researchers at TUMS Bahrami Children’s Hospital on 13 cases with Hydatid cyst disease, most patients suffered from pulmonary involvement and the final treatment was surgery. [H]


According to a report dispatched by the Public Relations of Bahrami Children's Hospital, Dr. Ali Akbar Rahbarimanesh, Dr. Hooshang Purang, Dr. Peyman Salamati and Dr. Bahareh Yahyaei evaluated 13 cases of hydatid cyst in Bahrami Children’s Hospital from 1998 to 2008. The results depicted the distribution of the disease as 53.9% in male and 46.1% in female patients. the most common age for contracting the disease was 6 and the most common infected organ was the lung. The most common symptoms and treatment were respectively, respiratory involvement in 53.8% of the cases and surgery in 84.6% of the patients. This study recommends hygiene education to families as an effective tool for preventing this endemic disease in Iran.
