Dr. javadi head of "spinal cord injuries center" pointed in his welcome speech to the new advances of TUMS researches in the field of treatment of these injuries and said: This congress attempts to sum all the works done in different research centers around the country.
He added:" we provide the rehabilitative and therapeutic services for the holy defence injured combats who follow the news about any modern therapy of spinal cord injuries in the 'Media', enthusiastically. Because, they would like to know everything about the efficacy of new therapies, themselves . "
Dr. Javadi stated that there are 2063 war combats in Iran who have spinal cord injuries and they receive rehabilitation services in 13 special centers, but as far as we are concerned, the modern treatment introduced last year by Dr. saberi, TUMS scientist is based on shwann cell transplantation and is not applicable for most of the war combats suffering from severe spinal defects or total loss of spinal continuity.
He expressed hope that new horizons will be discovered for treatment of these patients, too.
In this congress, besides the treatments, other related topics particularly in field of nursing and rehabilitation modalities were discussed in different sessions to improve the level of medical services given to spinal cord injury patients.
