Dr. Ardeshir Ghavamzadeh, the head of Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS) Hematology-Oncology and Bone Marrow Transplant Research Center, has been invited by Syria's Health Ministry to help establish the center for blood and bone marrow transplant and share Iranian scientists' expertise in treating thalassemic patients, and also application of stem cells in treating diseases.
Ghavamzadeh is the founder thalassemia and leukemia treatment by the use of stem cells in Iran and TUMS' Hematology-Oncology Research Center and Stem Cell Transplantation president.
Iran ranks second after Italy regarding the quality of stem cell transplants and by the hard work of the researchers at the center and by the guidance of the doctor, thalassemia is treated successfully by stem cells. Ghavamzadeh says that 80% of those treated by stem cell transplants at the center have had full recovery.
