Date: 6/17/2009
TUMSPR News: Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS) will look into the curriculum of medicine for necessary changes by IranĂ¢€™s Ministry of Health authorization.
The activities leading to the revision of medical studies curriculum had been culminating for the past three years at the largest medical university in Iran, Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS).
The university had been undertaking four major evaluatory projects: Evaluation of medical studies based on the national standards, evaluation based on the university’s authorities views, evaluation based on protagonists’ views of the university and evaluation by Dundee Ready Education Environment Measure (DREEM) questionnaire.
Results obtained from these projects, alongside the ministry of health’s medical schools ranking system ended in a final report, the “Comprehensive evaluation of medical studies curriculum” which was approved by the school’s council in February 2009, followed by the chancellor’s letter to the ministry asking for revision.
Response to the chancellor’s letter came with a letter by Dr. Ainollahi, the vice-minister for education, giving the university the tool to probe into the curriculum which despite its many strong points, faces some crucial challenges.
In his letter, the vice-minister urges the university to carry on the duty to promote the quality of the state’s medical education in accordance with the world’s standards in this domain.
