According to a report by the Public Relations of TUMS’ children’s Hospital, Iran has been listed as one of the countries supporting and promoting quality of life victims of primary immunodeficiency diseases.


The TUMS faculty member, a children asthma and allergy expert, classified the primary immunodeficiency diseases as hereditary and caused by disorders during developmental stages or malfunctioning of immune system components.

He was quoted as saying that early diagnosis and treatment would reduce infections episodes and increase the patients’ quality of life but missed cases or improper treatment might end in complications and persistent damages to different body organs that eventually increase morbidity and mortality rates.

He said that “As these patients need constant care and health monitoring programs, we have to create a situation that the patients and their families are adequately informed about these diseases as much as possible to be able to actively participate in the treatment process. Therefore, support groups have been formed around the world with the objective of increasing the patients’ and their families’ general knowledge on the subject and facilitating their access to recommended treatment options. These organizations are non- governmental and they are run by the patients themselves and their families. These organizations help the patients converge together to share experiences. The Iranian organization to do so was established in 1998.
