Regional High-level Consultation in EMRO on the Prevention and Control of Non-communicable Diseases is Held at TUMS

TUMSPR News: The regional high-level consultation in Eastern Mediterranean Region (EMRO) on the prevention and control of non-communicable diseases hosted by the Ministry of Health and Medical Education is held at Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS) on October25, 2010.


Ministry of Health and Medical Education hosted this regional high-level consultation in Eastern Mediterranean Region (EMRO) on the prevention and control of non-communicable diseases in low- and middle-income countries at Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS) on October25, 2010. This gathering will last for two days.

The objectives of the gathering would be setting the stage for including the prevention and control of non-communicable diseases as an integral part of the global development plan and in related investment decisions, scaling up public policy responses to address non-communicable diseases and their risk factors and including these diseases in global development initiatives.

The participant of this gathering included delegates from countries in the EMRO region, vice-chancellors for health from different medical sciences universities throughout the country and authorities from UN and WHO country offices in Iran.

Dr. Mohammad Hussein Nicknam, the acting minister of health at the International relations Department, Dr. Ambrogio Manenti, the representative of the World Health Organization Country Office in Iran, Dr. Alireza Mesdaghinia, the vice-minister for health, Dr. Ala Alvan, the assistant director-general of the World Health Organization, Ms. Cosuelo Vedal, the UN Resident Coordinator in Iran and Dr. Marzieh Vahid-dastjerdi gave a lecture each.
