TUMSPR News: Commemorating Dr. Abbas Shafiee’s 50 Years of Scientific and Managerial Undertakings on May 20, 2010, the chair of pharmaceutical chemistry and annual reward for top pharmacy researchers were named after him.


The chair of pharmaceutical chemistry and annual reward for top pharmacy researchers were named after Dr. Abbas Shafiee in a meeting held to commemorate his 50 years of scientific and managerial undertaking on May 20, 2010.

The provost pharmacist has been serving the university since 1971 and has an advisor for the Ministry of Health and Medical Education aside from other roles he has played in the pharmaceutical arena in Iran.
Dr. Bagher Larijani, the chancellor for TUMS while presenting a plaque of honor to him, called Dr. Shafiee the architect of TUMS Pharmacy School and modern pharmacy in Iran and named the chair of pharmaceutical chemistry and annual reward for top pharmacy researchers after him while presenting a plaque of honor for 50 years of commitment to research and quality of work.

Dr. Abbas Sahfiee who was born in Qom, Iran in 1937, graduated from Pharmacy School in 1962 and continued his studies in pharmaceutical chemistry in Columbia University where he got his masters and doctoral degrees in the field in 1965 and 1968, respectively. He accomplished postdoctoral degree in the University of Chicago between the years 1968-69.
